Outdoor redfoot enclosure in a dry climate?

I'm moving to Arizona in a few weeks and want to build my redfoots an outdoor enclosure. So far we are thinking about doing a greenhouse in semi-shade with shelves to grow them food, and a moist/humid enviroment on the floor. Attached will be an outdoor pen in sunlight with more weeds and...

    hi! a re-introduction

Thanks for the suggestions. She does have a large wading dish that she sits in, I also mist the sides of the glass frequently and have a piece of plexiglass over the top to hold in the humidity. I will add more substrate and work on a humid hide for her as well. I am tempted to leave the basking...

    hi! a re-introduction

awww =( my poor little girl! I hope her new growth looks good (honestly I can't tell...I think I'm a little paranoid that I'm not doing a good job of raising her) So here are some pictures from, well right now. She looked so mad that I didn't take her out....she's got attitude I swear...

    hi! a re-introduction

I'll have to snap some new pictures, I actually don't have many of her at all! Until then, I have this video, although it's also pretty dated. (please don't mind the food selection- I had to share my dinner with her until pay day)...

    hi! a re-introduction

Hi all, I haven't been here in quite some time, since I got my redfoot. I got lots of info for her care, and I've had her for about a year now so I thought I would update and also have a few new questions as well. She has grown a bit in the year that I've had her, and much heavier :P But I...

    New to torts, enclosures

Thanks for the replies. I added a hide on the other side, and a slate for her food. Temps are 72-75 on the cool side, and 85 on the warm side. Humidity on the cool side is at 90% or higher thanks to some plexiglass over the top. And yes, I do also have a temp gun. And I have 2 separate bulbs- 1...

    Question about tortoise tables

Thanks. I have her in a large storage tub, the picture is in another post, but it seems like it's too small. It's only temporary, the best I could come up with when the boyfriend "suprised" me bringing her home. :P Good to know there's several options available for larger size enclosures...

    New to torts, enclosures

Well this is my first tortoise in my first tortoise enclosure. I now have plexiglass over 2/3 of the top (not under the lamps) to hopefully keep the humidity higher. Any advice/comments are greatly appreciated. I know there is lots of room for improvement but it's a start. *edit* She does...

    Question about tortoise tables

I'm thinking of building an enclosure for my redfoot. Should the wood be treated at all with a finish or something to block out moisture? If not...don't they get moldy from the high humidity? Thanks

    Question about calcium

I have a cuttlebone in my redfoot's enclosure that she loves to munch on. Should I still do a weekly sprinkling with a calcium and d3 supplement? Thanks

    Hey there

Here's a picture of her. It's from a cell phone so the quality is pretty bad but it's better than nothing.[hr] oh I should probably add that since that picture we added some coconut fiber and moss and its more humid than it was, but it doesn't stay humid for very long. She doesn't look that dry...

    Hey there

Thanks for all the replies. She's eating well now, but the humidity does need to be higher. She has some bubbles around her eyes, which I read in another post is from dryness. I'm about to head over to the enclosure section and check out some ideas, because her enclosure isn't doing the job...

    Hey there

Thank you both. My temps are 85F and 50% humidity on the warm side, and 70 and 35% humidity on the cool side. And again thank you for the veterinary reference. [hr] Thank you all for the quick responses, and for the welcome :D Possibly pictures coming soon?! :P
