I have a mature female tortoise that needs a mate
She's a Testudo Hermanni and she laid 3 eggs in the garden last June. She's been with us for 5 years and last year was the first time we saw her laying eggs.

Yes, actually it does seem a strange place to lay eggs. The spot is in full sun all day just outside the shade of a Lime tree ( you call them Linden tree I think in the USA ) but it is in the main part of the garden, a good way from the house. We've tried allowing part of the garden to grow wild...
This video is of the Herman, living wild in my garden, just after she had laid 3 eggs. It took about an hour in all to dig the hole and bury them. she had been acting strange all day doing a little dance on the spot now and again
I've got photo's of the egg laying if anyone's interested
The problems been this year that the weather turned cold again after George came out of his tunnel.
He cleaned himself up within 2 or 3 days by brushing under leaves / branches etc.
He hates rain or water for that matter. First sign of rain and he heads for cover. He seems to sense rain by...
Hi,
Just a few observations about our tortoise that continues to live wild in our garden.
She ( George , don't ask ) came out of hiberation 14th March which was a month to early really but we had a few weeks of temperatures that went up to 22 degrees. Its dropped back to 12 and 6 at night so...
This is about 40 minutes after she broke through the surface of the soil.
I went to get my camera then but as usual the battery was flat. I put it on charge and got this photo later. She was exhausted and waited several minutes before each push. Later I reached down the burrow she had left and...
Last summer I constructed a cave with a 50/50 sand / sieved soil mix base down to one metre deep but she gave it a good looking over and ignored it for the rest of the year.
The garden is 8000 sq metre which is a medium size garden by France standards so she has lots of room to roam. She...
Thanks for the welcome
I had read that they don't normally lose weight but I put it down to her eating right up to digging down and thought she may have been active for a while till she settled and then for the dig back to the surface. She caught us off guard because she was really active and...
I have a Herman Tortoise living wild in my garden in Central France. She is over 40 years old and I've a few facts that might be of interest.
She went into hibernation on the 26th October and came out on the 16th April, so thats 10 days short of 6 months. She went in at 2.3 kgs and came out at...
