Thank you all!
As long as they are not harmful I feel slightly better. I am definitely gonna do a major clean (soak substrate in hot water, etc) soon though. 😂
I also reaslied I should not be storing the mazuri near the enclosure since the enclosure's humidity is kept high... 🤦♀️
Thanks...
They are a lot smaller than springtails. The springtails I saw online were all approx 1mm. These are the size of a pour over coffee grounds. Like powder. Finer than sand. (I can't think of a good analogy for the size)
My only concern is if they are harmful to the torts.
Hi guys,
I recently found what I thought were mites in my bag of mazuri. I threw the bag out, but I think the enclosure was compromised. Are these mites? And are these harmful to my tortoise (Indian Star)?
Here's a video of one moving (there are a lot more):
And here's a bunch dead trying...
There are white spots that is a little furry and look like mold. So those are not mold? @.@
Attached another image that can hopefully show better. Hard to show what i can see.
Hi guys,
I've been using Reptibark since day one. Previously there were some mold patch if i missed poop. But the mold is now almost everywhere. Would like to check how can i prevent this from happening? I recently boiled my bedding (i thought it would help sterilisating). Not sure if that...
Hello everyone.
This is just the growth rate of a single subject case study of an Indian Star Tortoise (Al).
I was looking high and low for this kind of information when Al first came into my care and I hope this data will be helpful for future Indian Star owners.
Note that this is a single...
Thank you for the link! This is actually exactly what I am facing. The vegetables in the grocery store are just not listed on The Tortoise Table (even after translation). Furthermore, the recommended endives are not always available (I can't find any escaroles locally, they might just be named...
Hi, I am wondering if this “Zesty Sprouting Mix" can be used? I am trying to get some seeds and I can't get the Testudo mix from Tortoise Supply shipped over (Shipping issues, had to get the seeds returned). I have no issues shipping from iHerb from the past and I happen to see this.
The...
We turn off all lights before we go to bed. :D
These are the metal halides ones I am talking about:
metal halides
With all the stuff that is on the way, I think I should be able to track everything properly soon.
Thank you so much for the detailed reply. I have some questions on top of the suggestions.
I'll get a temporary greenhouse then. :(
I am from Singapore. I actually deliberately took my country down because owning tortoises (of any sort) is illegal where I live. And my picture was in the DP...
I was being advised to use the metal halide bulbs for 1 to 2 hours a day (and normal heating bulbs for the rest of the hours of "daytime") to get sufficient UVB. Is this method flawed? I really need more advice. I've been trying to follow Tom's guide but many things that are available in the...
I am using a UVA/UVB bulb that looks like this:
I worry these bulbs do not emit enough UVB so I ordered some metal halide ones and a UV meter, which are on the way to me now.
we are moving next year and will be building a closed chamber but as of now anything else I can do to help with the...
