Pic of my tiny dinosaur having second breakfast

Lol you're one of the few people who have correctly assumed where the name came from, I can't tell you how many people assume it is after the playwright Chekhov (bc they are clearly giving me way too much credit in terms of being a grown-up). But it is totally Trek-inspired. LLAP!

Just thought I'd share a pic of Chekhov having a little snack on the balcony while I was cleaning his water and food dishes :-) The little monster takes his leaves very seriously.

New poster w Russian tort (and oft-asked question to ask again, just to be sure!)

He does curl his tail to the side, so I think he's a he (is that right?)

Russian tort refuses to eat calcium

Question to the tortoise veterans - Chekhov is roughly 2 yrs old, and absolutely refuses to eat any leaves with calcium powder (and always has). He seems to be doing just fine, but does he need the extra calcium? He will reject even the tiniest sprinkle, and did from the first day I had him (he...

    I don't have a tortoise. (Yet.)

I have a Russian tortoise and I do love him, he's got an awful lot of personality for a little dinosaur. :) Things you might not know: they can move pretty quickly, actually, and they like to climb, so keep an eye on them if you let them roam free at all. Have fun! :tort:

Greetings, All! I'm new to the forum but just about 2 years into owning my tortoise, Chekhov. I've seen a lot of posts about keeping tortoises solitary, so forgive me for asking the redundant question: are tortoises really OK if they don't ever mate? Chekhov is about 2 years old now, and I...
