I would say, NO. Mostly because turtles drink water while they swim (as well urinate defecate in it).
Salt water is not really good for consumption for any animal that is not born and raised in it.
As we sometimes get a mouthful when at the beach or at the salt water pool it does not hurt us...
My red foot DEMANDS that I pick him up daily. He loves taking baths while listening to 80s music and getting his head pet. He will also come running over when the water spray can is wetting down his enclosure. He pretends he doesn't like it, but then comes running to get under it and also wants...
I grow my own bananas and was happy to find my red foot enjoys a leaf or two... more like part of a leaf as they (banana leaves) are so big. Does anyone know the feeding frequency or dietary properties of banana plant leaves? Like I said, I grow a few banana plants and have a good supply of...
Automation has been put on hold for now. I will be taking up this project again when time permits...
The enclosure has had a few redecorating stages since the last posts. The most recent was over the weekend.
Garden automation also in the process. Fresh greens!
Yeah, I had one in my RFs enclosure for a while too.
I dont think it will matter where you move it, because I am sure it will become a tastey favorite for your tort. It was for mine... I mean, She really pestered it!
Stomped it, Chomped it, Dug it up, Dragged it around with her like it was a...
You should put up a "Beware of DOG" sign. That would be so funny!
Yes, I meant dog, because when people second look it and see its not a dog... LOL!
nice enclosure!
The Zebra plant has been moved to a plant hospital. It was thoroughly brutalized and chomped on. She really loves that plant (yes, almost obessively) and hopefully, when it recovers a bit, she can enjoy it some more!
And thank you all for the comments!
I hope to be updating some more pictures...
Im guessing there aren't a lot of programmers or tech-type automation nerds here (or at least aren't reading my thread)
I will be using Windows controlled Arduino to action the relays and sensors for this part of the project.
Has anyone else gone "full tech" on their tortoise enclosures?
...
My enclosure (still being completed) is 3x6' and should do for quite a while... My red foot is 6"+ and seems to love her new area.
I used vinyl flooring for the inside of the box. It allows for a very good wetting of the substrate.
I used canvas for the sides, but that was to reduce weight...
Nice. I used the same humidifier in my enclosure. The elephant as a matter of fact. I just connected some old fluval hose to it from the main opening for now. But I was looking to get some better tubing like that soon. Works well to keep the substrate moist through the day until I can mist up in...
Ok, some more little updates from last weekend. More probably after this one too.
I will let the photos do the talking as you can see the slight progression over the weekend.
mmmm Mango Treats!
FEATHER BOA
BIG friend comes for a visit...
Thanks a lot everyone... I am starting my plant and landscaping purchaces now.
I have a lot of plants I grew myself from seed around my place, but none that are tort-safe it seems.
Currently she has:
Aloe
Hens and chicks
some other succulent I cant remember the name of
another one that she...
OK
Now for the surprise!!
--beware a barrage of photos coming your way--
I decided to line the inside (of the canvas) walls of the enclosure with...
3D Camouflage Netting (woodland). I know right? Crazy.
I figured:
1) Looks like a tree canopy and will recreate a nice rainforest...
