    I guess it's like most things that are illegal in Argentina. I've seen these same or very similar tortoises for sale in plenty of ferias for around 100 pesos in the open.

    No, I live here permanently. I suspect it came from a street vendor and therefore a CITES permit for it is out of question even in Argentina. Why do you ask?

    Thanks for the response. I'm in Argentina and my name is Mark. Someone gave this tortoise to us as an unannounced "gift". Obviously the gift that keeps on giving. I have some experience with snakes and aquatic turtles, but I'm crossing my fingers it's indeed a Chaco and not a Sulcata! :D

    Hi, I was hoping someone could confirm one way or the other that this is indeed a Chaco? It was purchased in Argentina. It's a hatchling, maybe a little under 3" snout to tail.
