Well, for two weeks George has been happy with his enclosure and didn't seem to mind having a "window" in the side of his tub. Yesterday afternoon and evening I noticed he was doing alot of scratching and bumping against the plexi. I'm hoping that since this was the only time he's seemed...
George is in a 50 gallon Rubbermaid type container. I don't have the exact "footprint" dimensions, but he seems happy and active in there. I did cut out part of one of the sides and replace it with plexiglass so it didn't just look like a big blue tub sitting in the living room. I've seen alot...
Too funny! I was giving George a rub on the head Friday night. After a few seconds, he pulled his head back slightly and opened his mouth... I don't know if he was *yawning* or if he was contemplating giving me a bite, but I didn't leave my hand there long enough to find out!
I didn't get a cam set up, but I did get to do some observing this weekend since I was around the house more often than usual. George definitely has a schedule. It seems to help now that I have his light on a timer - on ay 8AM, of at 9PM. I change out the food and water before going to work, so...
I actually "bolted" the plexi to the tub with very small stainless steel machine bolts, nuts, and washers since I was a little concerned about chemicals in most available epoxy resins. I pre-drilled holes at each "high point" of the waved part of the tub and when I tightened the bolts it...
Sooooo... George got a good soak - about 10-15 miutes this morning while I was setting up his new tub. I look in on him one minute and all is well... After laying out the slate in his tub, and turning around again, I suddenly have a Russian tort awash in a sea of poo... Aside from just being...
Thanks, everyone.
Quick question for the group: In my smaller tub, the ambient temp on the cool side was between 70-72, while the basking spot was 95. In the bigger tub, the cool side is running closer to 64-68 (room temperature for me), with the basking spot getting to 93. Should I do...
George has been with me for a week now and I've finally managed to get a more permanent indoor tub set up for him. His first tub was clear-ish plastic and he was starting to get a little too interested in digging at the corners. Since I had some time this morning, I got him settled in to his new...
Thanks! It's reassuring to know George is "normal" :-) I found a light timer stashed in the back of a drawer, but of course the battery back up is drained. As soon as I get to Walmart to pick up new batteries, George will be on a timer too.
Now that I'm back to work, I'm sort of curious about what George spends his day doing... I leave breakfast and turn on his light when I leave for the office between 630-700 and when I get home it's obvious he has traipsed all over his tub... eaten every scrap of food, filled his water dish with...
I'm a new keeper myself, but I've found the forums here to be an amazing resource... I can't imagine how anyone managed to fo anything before the internet came along!
I was definitely nervous bringing George home Saturday, but it's been super rewarding to see him start exploring his new...
The local Petco didn't have anything larger than the current half log, so I had to improvise a bit. I picked up a terra cotta pot at Walmart yesterday and buried it halfway to replace the too-small log. Then I bured the half log so just the top/bark is exposed so it gives George another texture...
