    identify these please

those are nice looking Russians, and HUGE too. do you have SCL measurements for them or weights, you said the male is roughly 13yrs old, that second female looks like a monster

    Russian tortoise breeding

i have also read that weight also plays a small role, some where around 800grams for the female if she is in the 6" range. males can be sexually mature much younger and lighter/smaller like 4 1/2-5" and around 500-600grams

What gender are my 2 russian torts?

i have my male with 3 females all the time, and he never really bothers them. the male is 4 5/8" and the females range in size from 4 1/2"-5 1/8" my guess is none of them are sexually mature. they are all wild caught, i have read that there are some ways to encourage matting behavior, like...

    is my tort pissed off?

ive read countless posts stating that keeping torts in aquariums w/ clear walls is a bad idea. they dont understand invisible barriers. when ever im at a pet store and they have torts in glass tanks all they do is try to walk through the glass........it's a known fact glass aquariums are not a...

    is my tort pissed off?

well aquariums are generally a bad idea to begin w/. i would either build him a larger tort table or cover up the sides of the tank.

    Why is that?

they dont understand invisible barriers, they will do the same thing if put in a glass aquarium. you could try to buy those green/brown plastic slats and cut them down to like 6-8" and do the perimeter. you can kinda see through them though if you walk by them be at a certain angle but that may...

    coco coir smells

i wear vinyl gloves and weekly sift through the substrate, i pick out all their turds and any foreign objects. i also mist it several times a week. i will set my sprayer to the finest mist i get and i will spray the torts even i figure they encounter rain.

    Bonnie & Clyde's hideout.

the heat lamp will reduce the humidity, but if anything that humidifier will probably create water droplets on the ceiling of that plastic, so look for that.

    New to russians!

70% humidity is high for Russians, that's more for Redfoots. 50% or less humidity is more ideal. I use coco coir bricks that expand in hot water.
