Ya, that's such an exciting time. I was so thrilled when my leopard first did it.
Just wait til he starts biting your fingers 
. All my tortoises hand-feed...Some more aggressively then others. One of my females is an absolute sweet-heart; very gentle when I hand-feed her, avoids my fingers, and the few times she has chomped my fingers she's gentle....She realized very quickly its my fingers and lets go. She's the same female that climbs up on my lap for attention though
Where-as another one of my females is an absolute tank that would probably take off the first digit if I gave her the chance.

Ha yeah, he chomped my finger a couple times before he got the broccoli
The pain is numbed when they're small .
He's a sulcata though; don't get used to it. Hehe...
