It's been 10 days since my Russian has eaten any of the right foods... How long should this take?
I will certainly try it!! Thank you!!Mine also got hooked on the Mazuri and I ended up buying a very small food processor and pulverizing all kinds of good stuff up in it. Mostly weeds, leaves and flowers with a bit of water and a few Mazuri pellets for taste. It worked. I've been using less and less Mazuri now and it is roughly 10% of the diet. Unless you mix or finely chop, they WILL eat around the "good stuff"
I'm trying this today!! Thank you so much!!!How are you trying to get him to eat better food? You have to be tricky about it. If they have the chance to eat the bad stuff, over the good stuff they will. You need to chop up what he should eat and what he shouldn't eat and spritz with water. As he eats this, slowly take away the stuff he shouldn't eat so thereis more off he stuff he should. Keep doing this until there is only the good stuff left that he is eating.

I'm trying to feed him Spring mix & mainly Mazuri, I've heard so much about how they love it. He used to eat the spring mix until I started feeding lettuce and cabbage on special occasions and he dove right into it and forgot his normal foods. I have him in a 50 gal. Rubbermaid container and keep him at 75-80 degrees F and he has a heat lamp that is 50W. At nigh I keep him at cool temps: low 70's. I got this tortoise from a reliable owner over a year ago, and he's been doing great until recently just not wanting spring mix. I don't have a way to get more of the exotic foods he needs, because I live in a smaller area. They only carry spring mix in 2 places here and that's all I could find for him. I really do want to hibernate him, last year I didn't and I wish I would have; because he really seemed to want to. Now he keeps trying to hibernate again.. Always crawling in his tunnel and sleeping, burrowing, and just is less active. Maybe this could be why, but he will eat lettuce and cabbage just fine!! I don't understand. We need more info. What are you trying to feed him? What is he eating? How is he housed and what are your four temps? Where did you get this tortoise? Do you intend to hibernate him?
