Why did you get your tortoise?I got Humpfree because I wanted A freind that would live for around 75 years so I would not have to go through a paijnful death of one of my pets.

I am a junior reptile enthusiast. I got my tortoise because I had water turtles growing up but I thought that a land turtle or tortoise would be a lot more fun, and I was right. Im already looking into getting another!

I had a RES as a kid. A Desert Tortoise as a teenager and just always liked tortioses and turtles. Never stayed in one place very long growing up. Parents gave pets away when we moved. I find Tortoises and Turtles calming and soothing, almost majestic. I just feel peaceful and at rest when I am near my Greeks. Now my 4 RES they are energetic little guys, I just enjoy watching them in their enclosure, it's often better than anything on TV. I work in a high stress job and my critters have such a calming effect on me. Don't know what I'd do without them.

I have always love turtles and tortoises, and my hubby's uncle had 5 boxies dumped on his door and I took them. It an addiction or as some say you just can't have one :)

I have always had RES and box turtles. For as long as I can remember my mom would find turtles on the side of the road and bring them home so they wouldn’t get hit. We would have them for a while and then eventually they would dig out of the yard. I had rescued a RES from a friend in high school that was near death living in a 5 gal tank in the closet when I found her. I nursed her back to health and had her until this year. She was about 15 y/o I had had her for the last 7 or 8 of those years. Long story short, we had a make shift pond on the patio for her and one other RES and a stray dog came up in the middle of the night and ate the little guy and tried to eat my big girl. I found her hiding under a cactus. We had to put her down the next day. A few weeks later after the dog got taken off the property and I had kind of stopped grieving. I started looking for a tortoise. Soon after I had my hingeback and recently added my sulcatas to the family. I have always liked the fact that my turtles and torts won’t get old a die after 6 or 7 years like a dog. I just hope my grandkids will like them too! LOL!

Mine came with my husband! :0)

I brought a dog and my 10 yr old son into the relationship and he brough Shelly. I love Shelly. She's so friendly - often just coming over to where we are to graze and hang out. I agree that it's relaxing to just watch her. Of course, I have to watch her pretty close if I'm barefoot as she just can't be convinced that my red toe nails are NOT edible! Prehistoric would be the word I'd use to describe her. Watching her eat is like watching a mini dinosaur chomp down.
