What turtle is this?

Found this guy in my pond. He smells horrid and has a fat tail. Really long claws. I have never seen this turtle before. Any idea what it is? I live in Louisiana but I do not believe I have seen one of these here before.

I'd need to see the head and neck to be sure, but I'm guessing that it is an old, old, melanistic male red ear slider. When they get real old and lose their color, even the red stripe on the neck turns either grey or black.
