Today I went on a canoe and fishing day trip with a friend, of course we caught no fish. Instead I was able to get out in the shallow spots and catch a lot of different turtles. I knew what every species was except for one, I think it’s some sort of map (Texas or Cagle's), but their huge! I considered Texas river cooter but they don’t seem to have the same face patterns. Anyone know what kind these are?

I think your right its a map of some sort. At first I was thinking more yellow bellied slider however, those have dark spots on the bottom of their shells. So I am siding with the painted.

No it's without a doubt a Texas cooter. Trust me I've breed every species of cooter for several years. They do resemble Cagles maps strongly but I'm 100% certain it's a Texas cooter. If you need a detailed explanation of how I am so certain I don't mind.

Thank you, I thought they were Texas cooters but the facial pattern threw me off.
