Unless you think your tortoise is sick, it doesn't need to see a vet. Some vets do more harm then good, as they don't know what they are doing when it comes to tortoises or they still have bad outdated info. In Canada, it's probably going to be even harder to find one with good tort experience. I have had my oldest tort since 2011 and ha d gotten 3 more since and never have seen a vet with them yet. Knock on wood

Something is wrong with my youngest tortoise Lychee. I only noticed it today as it was finished eating. I picked it up and and noticed that there seems to be an open wound on both sides of its neck. When the neck folds you don't really notice it from afar but after closer inspection it looks like it has been bleeding. I also noticed its left eye is puffy and closed, while the other eye is wide open. It's the main reason why I want to seek out a reptile specialist vet. I'm really concerned, I have no idea how this happened. Most of the time little Lychee is in its hut sleeping and I almost never seen it when its out and about so I don't even know how long this has been happening.

What temps are you keeping your tortoise at?
I remember that my tortoise once got scars/open wounds on both sides of the neck as an effect of being kept too cool (Or at least related to it)

Torontonian here.

The The Links Road Clinic is one option in Toronto that has experience with Chelonian veterinary medicine. No one I would rave about, but they know the basics.

The Amherst Veterinary Hospital in Scarborough is another one that Toronto tortoise community uses but I have no personal experience with.

For serious matters, I would actually recommend making the drive to Guelph to the Ontario Veterinary College. The best chelonian care in the region is through their avian and exotic medicine department.

Thanks for your input! Right now it's at 75F, usually it's between 75-80. I'd be surprise if that's the cause of it b/c my older tortoise Kiwi has had the same temp setting for about 5.5 years now and he didn't believe have any skin issues.

Thanks I appreciate the recommendations! I don't drive so depending on the day I choose to go in I'll either Uber or get my bf to rent a car and take us there. Links Road Clinic looks like the closer option.

Yeah, then it's probably not the temperatures.

Good luck at the vets.

Is your injured tortoise living with another tortoise? Could those be bites on the neck?
Nope, there's a divider/wall in my tortoise box that keeps my two torts separate and I haven't taken them out for play dates in a while

Good luck with this problem. It looks to me like an injury caused by being bitten by a dog or a cat. Is that possible?
Infection may set in if this is not treated.
Please keep us updated and thanks for coming to this site for help. A good vet should be able to help this little one, if you can get him to one.

Thank you everyone for your kind replies!

Just an update on Lychee:
I was able to take it to the Vet (the Links Road Clinic) and Doctor diagnosed those "neck wounds" as bilateral ruptured ear abscess. As a result since the ear, nose and throat are all connected, my little Lychee has developed a respiratory infection which causes that one eye to be watery/shut. I am currently treating it with antibiotics. Otherwise the doctor says Lychee will heal in no time!
