That's the Phrynops hillari. They come from Argentina, commonly called a side-neck. I received 3 of them and gave two to our zoo on breeding loan.

I was looking at the picture of the hillari that Turtleswagg put up and you can just barely see one of the soft shells. Look up to the left of the hillari, just above the silt cloud. The snout is just barely at the surface of the water. His/her shell is a little bigger than the hillari. Do you see it?

Looking at the picture of my turtles that is in YOUR post, turtleswagg, see the little pond turtle (Actinemys marmorata) that's climbing up on the left of the picture? See the deformity on her carapace? That was a hole about the size of a quarter. You could see her organs. I nursed her back to health over a year and now she's the tamest turtle on the property.

Yes, its very rewarding when a sick one gets well. Do you keep your turtles in the house?

Hi Valery: The easiest way is to use photobucket.com or tinypic.com.

I don't have any more water turtles, but when I did I had mostly Eastern Painted's and RES that people gave me.
Abby three years old. She was a few days old when my friend gave her to me. So tiny. This picture won two photo contests on another forum

This is a 9 year old RES that someone gave me (I confiscated really) who was kept in one of those little "death bowls" for 9 years with no light and only fed when they thought of it. The girl who had her told me she was a great pet, because you could go on vacation and not have to feed her for a month....(in an inch of water) If they didn't agree to give her to me, I would have robbed her anyway..(I know...not good...) When I got her home, I just sat there and cried for an hour. I hate people. She was a little bigger than a quarter and didn't know how to swim...all bumpy...a mess. I had to keep her in a Christmas tree storage bin with a little pond at the end of it or she would have drowned

She grew up and was in the calendar on another forum

Very nice, everyone!

This is our RES that we just rescued this week. No clue how old she is, but she's big...almost 2lbs...so I'm guessing several years. She was dumped at the humane society here because the previous owners had, in their own words, no idea how to care for a turtle.

I realize my tank is all wrong in the pic...it has since been changed. No more rocks or fish and I have a better filter. :)

Is that left hind leg swollen, or just muscular?
