I noticed today while soaking our baby Russian Tortoise that his skin is peeling on his neck. Is this normal? My son said it means he's growing, but since he's 8 I thought i'd get a second opinion :) I have attached a picture as well. Thank you!ninjas peeling.jpg

PS. The reddish looking stuff near his neck are not sores, its pieces of his substrate floating around during his soak!

like all reptiles when tortoises grow they shed their skin unlike snakes they shed in pieces not whole. your son deserves a gold star. :)

Thank you everyone! I am working on increasing humidity but relieved to know its normal! My son does deserve a gold star, he LOVES turtles and tortoises and researches them often!
