Tortoise in the rain

Hi I have just built my new tortoise outdoor enclosure but it is raining. I live in England so it rains a lot. He has got a little shelter that he can sit under but he isn't bright enough to sit under it to keep him self dry. Should he only be put outside in the dry weather or is it alright to be outside on rainy days

The problem is prolonged rain and cold... your tort must be able to bask

Joe, my tort, quite likes being out in warm rain - especially a thunderstorm

His beak is rather overgrown. You need to get that trimmed.

Oh I know he eats off slate but it grows sooooo quickly. Our vets stopped doing it. I don't really know how to. Any ideas?

It is important that it is kept under control. You need to find a new vet if yours no longer does it and you don't want to do it yourself.

Do you have cuttlebone in the enclosure? Gnawing on that helps. What do you feed. Tearing at food not cut up small should help to keep it check too. Nice tough stuff like big dandelion leaves and grazing on clover outdoors.
