I was browsing through pet finder and stumbled upon shelters in Southern California listing tortoises and turtles that are up for adoption. This broke my heart! Anybody out there know of a rescue or people who could take them out? I know there are too many to pull them all, but maybe a few?

Here is a link to one for what looks like a Sulcata or desert tortoise in the City of Los Angeles West Valley Animal Shelter. https://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/36322762

Here are two Sulcata's or Desert tortoises in Pasadena https://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/36301656

And is this a red slider? I don't know much about turtles, but should he be this dry? https://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/34243177

Those first three are desert tortoises, and it looks like they don't realize that last one is a WATER turtle.

You can let the local CTTC chapters in those areas know. They might be able to foster the tortoises until they can find homes.

When a tortoise comes up for adoption in the shelters near me they have no trouble finding homes for them. if you want a chance to adopt it you had better be first in line as there is more than one person who wants to adopt it. I have adopted two of my tortoises from my local shelter. :)

We would sure help but we are on the other side of the US ( Eastern NC). We have lots of acreage to take in tortoises but they rarely if ever become avail around here.
