I've read that you can't properly determine the sex of a tortoise until they are full grown.
Do the tortoises all look the same as hatchlings?

Sorry the pictures are not very clear.

It's looking like a female to me. :)

I just read that the males often appear the same as a female until they are 5" or so.
So he could still be a Nelson and not a Nelly? ;)

Oo differing opinions from the lovebirds, I like this ;)

I guess we'll settle this bet in approximately 3 years! :D

Could be less--my Anoushka is already over 4 inches at 16.5 months. My little Novalee is over 3" at 6.5 mos. I know Greeks grow more quickly, but since Nelson has put on some good growth, you might be able to find out sooner than you think!

My guess is girl, based on the shell formation as well! It'll be fun to look back on this and see who was right! Btw, I think Nelson is a great girl's name! I love the unique. Just got a new gecko that I christened Catnip. :)

Nelson IS kind of cool for a girl :) I love unique names too.
You have the best names for your pets Meg!
