OK....

Since Poppy passed, I have been looking a little more intently for a Tortoise buddy.

I just found this Redfoot, but I don't know tons about them. He looks in awful shape, is that correct? If he is, I will jump and get him, just wanting to know if he looks as sickly as I'm thinking.

He looks a little dry, but not sure if its just because of the possible power that might be on him. What worries me is the way he looks in the pic with his eyes closed. The enclosure he lives in don't look too bad. Def, not the worst I've seen. See what others say. I you do get him, good luck. They need lots of humidity.

Something keeps whispering to get him... -_-

That one pic just screams "I'M DYING! PLEASE HELP!"

Don't forget though. You may not be able to help:( Only you can make the decision and only you can know what you can do and how much you can afford to do, mentally, physically and financially. However, we will all be here to help you with any questions that might come up.

Yeah...

I really think I could help him. I have a reptile specialist who has become very acquainted and helpful to me, and I have access to probably around $200 right now just for vet care.

As far as the toll of working on him or losing him, I plan on making a sanctuary when I grow up, and, well, I'm going to lose some of them. I have to accept that, and realize that at least he was happier in his final days, and know that even if I save one, it is worth it. I would feel worse not even trying.

Not to mention I have all you good folks to help carry the burden, haha!

I would be concerned about the closed eyes as well. I would definitely check his shell for softness, check for appetite and if he opens his eyes during a soak and keeps them open. You dont want to spend 150 bucks on a tort that you have no chance at saving... i dont want to be the downer but it is something to think about

I feel so sorry for this baby. The pic with his eyes closed scares me. Even with his eyes closed, he doesn't look as healthy as some others I've seen. Poor guy. Definitely check him out before forking out $150.00!

I don't need the enclosure and stuff ( One good think about owning a reptile COLLECTION- you have enclosures, lights, and proper bedding laying around) so I think I can get it really low for just him.

I have some saved Tortoise Anti-Biotic.. enough for about 4 weeks, and could give him the same dose I had to give my same sized Ornate Box Turtle. It's not even past the Expiration date so it's still good.

Closed, puffy eyes. Probable sign of Vitamin A deficiency, which would also be a strong hint at an improper diet. I'm going to guess the only reason he isn't showing MBD yet is because he's only 6 months. Just by his shell and eyes you can tell he's been raised in a too-low-humidity environment. The growth lines are also dry, another indicator of low humidity.
I would guess he will not live in this mans care.
I just love when people say "only rehomed to people who have done research" when they so obviously have not conducted their own research beyond the pet store....

He looks ill. Very dry. These guys need humidity. Eyes closed shut could mean a few things. If you are wanting to get this sick tort be advised you will need to take it to a vet. Asap. I would ask the owner for a price reduction because of this. You are taking a big chance here...

Haggle for sure explain everything above and about the care. Try and buy the tort for as little as possible ot suggest to the guy you will take the tort and get it back to a healthy state and he can sell his equpitment to make his money back. Let him know you have your own uvb light heating stuff.

I haggle a lot and I believe you should beable to buy just the tort for 50 or less good luck and in my opinion it is always better to take the chance then to think what if .... My thoughts

I wouldn't say from those pics he looks too bad-he's been kept under too low humidity but shell looks OKish. The eyes are a concern though

I am pretty sure he is a yellowfoot not a redfoot. He is also a little expensive. $100 would be good. Needs more humidity and some TLC!

If you are hearing the little voice telling you to get him....I would. He may simply need some simple tweaks to his living conditions and show signs of a positive outcome...anti biotic are hard on a torts system unless you find he really needs them, especially if he has been living in way dry conditions....I would say go for it...set him up and watch him for a couple weeks and see how he does. But you are the one who actually has to decide....

Okay I am going to be the big evil person and ask two questions...

1) What is your Mother's thinking on this?

2) Did you ever paid what you had promise to pay TRN for the tortoise you got from them?

1) I don't mean to be rude, but I really think that that is something I deal with, not you. I was simply asking if you guys thought I should. I will deal with my parents, that's really not something that is any of your concern. I respect you, and you know much more than me, and I know you are an admin, but that is still a personal matter.

2) That has been taken care of.

I think what jacqui qas getting at is she didn't want you to "save" this tort to turn around and have to rehome it.

Also in my opinion if you had no way financal or other to "save" this tort then our opinions and time to read this thread would be wasted. When we could have been giving out opinion to an other person who needs the help.

Myself as well not trying to be rude but that is my thought and jacqui in my opinion is right to bring it up as others may not know your situation to fully answer should "YOU" save him
