I've got some red apple aptenia growing in my yard, its very well taken care of [no pesticides or anything like that.. just good ol' water]. Wondering if this is alright for my Russian Tort to eat. Any help would be great, thanks in advance! :]

Is this some sort of ice plant? My thought on the subject is that he won't eat it if its not good for him. By that, I mean, free choice. Usually when a tortoise is wandering around and finding things to eat on his own, as opposed to eating a pile of food that you give him, they won't eat something that doesn't taste or smell good to them.

This is called the heart shaped iceplant. I have read someplace that this should not be feed to torts. However I can not find it now. My Greeks have eaten this as Yvonne said when they had full range of the back yard. But they did not eat much in comparison with wondering jew, which they scarfed up readily.

Haha yea you're right. Man I'd totally forgotten I'd written that. Changes to follow, wouldn't want to confuse anyone. He's not a robot or anything. :]

Thanks for all the insight guys! Yeah i've heard a lot about this "wandering jew" plant.. but I have no idea where to get one. I guess I'll keep on the lookout. I want to pot little plants to put in her tort home, but haven't the slightest of what to put in. Hmm... research begins.

Where are you located. I have it going crazy in my yard. There are several colors varigated, purple and all green. It is often sold as a house plant as it is a very invasive plant.

Also here is a list of plants you can use for your Russian.

I'm in Southern California, it looks familiar but I'm pretty sure there's none in my yard, I don't really even have grass. Haha..

shesdisarming I am also in So CA. I live in the city of Highland. If you would like some I would be more than happy to give you some. I have lots. It doesn't take much to get it started and were it is growing I don't have grass either. If you are interested in some just PM me the City you are in and we can set something up.
