Greeks have a conical "spur" scale on the backs of their hind legs (near the tail) which is where they get their name "Mediterranean Spur-Thigh Tortoise" and Hermanns do not have this spur.

Hermmans have a hard, horn-shaped scale at the tip of their tail. Greeks don't have that scale.

The animal on the left in both photos is a Greek tortoise (T. graeca ssp.) while the one on the right is an Eastern Hermann's tortoise (T. h. boettgeri).
