I came home to find one of my elongata stretched out this way. I have dogs that lay this way but I've never seen a tortoise do this. Sorry for the lousy pictures - I only had my phone with me.
BTW - That's a big chunk of mazuri on her head, not a blood engorged tick or anything like that...

Pretty cute! Yup, they've got to expose all the skin they can in order to soak up those rays.

Yeah, they stretch out their skin to get the rays.
I love your 3 elongates, they are very beautiful, your lucky to own them.

I really love them. I got them over the summer. They are recent imports from Vietnam. After a quick de-parasitization they have become some of the most outgoing and personable tortoises I have.

So cute! I have EBT's that lay the same way. I think they feel very safe and secure when they are all spralled out like that too! :) ha

Very cute. Looks like a couple of happy torts.

I have seen Tilda bask like that, but usually she spreads her legs out to either side. The other day I came in on her perched on her carapace with her back legs dangling freely. She started swinging her legs ever so slightly when I talked to her. Too cute.
