I got my russian tortoise about 9 days ago at my local pet store. His name is Franklin Gee Buttersnaps. He really likes eating broccoli and gets a beady beard when he eats it. Franklin isn't smart but i guess a smarter one would be more dull. He's not very used to me yet but i love him very much!!!:tort:

Hi and welcome. Tortoises don't have to be smart to be just a tortoise. I'm glad that you love him because there's no guarantees that another tortoise would be any smarter. Your tortoise may just surprise you one day. They know instinctively what they need and tries to get it. How old is your lil guy? Please read the thread under my name if you have a dog or plan to get a dog. Thanks.

Btw, your Russian is absolutely beautiful.

Welcome! That looks like a very healthy tort. Just one suggestion, it's best not to feed broccoli to your tortoise. It's not toxic, but can cause problems.

It won't really effect him, unless it's fed regulary. He should have a variety of weeds, or dandelion, plantain
(not the fruit) would be a good start. Make sure they are pesticide free. You can also buy grocery store greens. thetortoisetable.org is a great site that will aid you in feeding your tortoise.
