Need to build/buy my baby a new indoor enclosure

Ok so my little one is about 9 years and a little over 8 1/2 inches.I am in need to build/ buy a new indoor enclosure. Due to lack of fenced yard in my rental I don't let him outside without supervision. Hopefully we will be able to find a place with fenced yard soon maybe so I will be able to put him outside more. I built/scrapped together a bookshelf I found about 4 ft by 6ft that he was been living in and i am not sure that it will survive another move. I also want to make him something bigger for him. I have little to no carpentery skills other than that with a hammer or drill. Any help is appreciated.
