My babes are not sick. They are doing well but I need to line someone up just in case. I have two CDT that are about 4 months old. I have heard good things on the forum about Dr. Greek but I just don't like his motto:

Greek and Associates Veterinary Hospital
If you can get it in the door, we’ll see it!

Spiders? Fish? Birds? Mammals? Reptiles?

What do you think?

What is wrong with his motto? Very few Vets have the luxery of pinpointing one type of animal if that's what you mean.

Things to look for with a vet IMHO.
- If you have a large species like a Sullie, see if they have a mobile clinic
- Do they specialise in exotics
- Are they associated with any Herp charters, orgs, or rescues/sanctuaries,
- Any published articles, papers. etc, etc.
- Do they offer charity clinics
- Do they have interns?
- Have a preview visit for a routine checkup, do they seem personable, do they rush you, does the place look messy, etc, etc. Most Vets will have a certain odor, thats almost normal for me.

But you are doing the correct thing and setting up a relationship before hand, you just never know when something serious will happen and that's not a good time to find a good Vet.

I think your lucky to be in such close proximity to a vet with the reputation of Dr. Greek...in most cases, reptile owners are lucky to find a vet even WILLING to look at their animals.

I like his motto , but I would say find one you are comfortable with, I prefer someone who either owns tortoises themselves or has worked on them before, if you walk into a vet's office they look at you and say " what's that?" I would run and find a different vet, I don't know him so I can't say one way or the other.

I do not care for his motto either, however I have learned that good vets are hard to find, escpecially with tortoise experience. We have two in our area just in case, one will make house calls if needed regarding the sizes of several of our males. If the vet is good, ignore the motto and value his skills. We can not always have our way with the particulars. Hope you never nead a vet, avoid the bad and seek the good.
