Any thoughts on infrared heat bulbs? I have added one to my enclosure which had really helped bring my temps up. I am running it 24/7 and I'm worried that its not dark enough at night. Last night was the first night with it and my sulcata was up all night wondering around. I don't want to confuse him.

I use them with no problems, however, some members have complained that their tortoises are eating the substrate, and after a bit of detective work we discovered it was the red light being on during the day time. Seems as though the red light makes the substrate look like something edible to the tortoises.

I should qualify my statement: I use red or black lights, but only at night when the tortoises are tucked in for the night.

I used to use them, but found them to be unreliable, they just didn't last very long. Also, I think that they're a fire hazard.

Excellent points! Thank you. So would you recommend a CHE over the infrared?
