Hi my name is Connie but everyone calls me Meme. I have a 10 month old Sulcata Tortoise, whose name is Henley. I am in love with this little guy/gal. For me it all started with a desert box turtle that was found and given to me by my grandsons and a great dane named Tova. Our dog loved the turtle....I loved the turtle!!! She would push it around with her nose. She would carry it around in her mouth and slime it beyond recognition. But the carrying around in Tova's mouth concerned me bc I was afraid that she would crunch my little desert turtle. So I found a suitable home for the dog.....just kidding!!!! I found a home for the turtle and I made myself a promise that once Tova passed I would get me a turtle...maybe several. Tova passed in January of 2016, she was 14 years old...great age for a great dane. In August of 2016 I purchased Henley, I tried to choose a unisex name so it wouldn't matter whether it was a girl or a boy.....deep inside I'd like to have a boy....hahaha. I can not explain how much in love with this tortoise I am. I find Henley interesting to watch each and everytime I feed, bathe etc. my little one. I have been reading your post for several months and enjoy the information you share. I feel very fortunate to have found you all and I'm looking forward to shared pics and information.

Welcome.
I'm glad that you already know what a fascinating chew toy a tortoise is for a dog.
Do you live in a part of the world that you'll be able to build an outdoor home for your tortoise?

I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico....so I believe that it is a very good possibility....my daughters boyfriend and I are already drawing up plans for an outside home.

Hello and welcome to you and Henley :)

Have you read the TFO care sheets?

They're written by species experts working hard to correct the outdated information widely available on the internet and from pet stores and, sadly, from some breeders and vets too.

Thank you so much for the information.
