Hello everyone! After 12 years of raising a Russian tort I have found this forum. I am currently in the process of giving my tort a much needed housing upgrade, after searching many posts on here I have decided on making a table. I'm still planning so any helpful tips and suggestions are welcome! I am so excited to be part of this community and I hope I can keep learning new helpful things!

I know your area has bad winters, but Russian tortoises do much better outside. Any chance he can live outside during spring, summer and fall, then hibernate in the winter?

Oh, and - Welcome to the Forum!

It might be possible. There are some things I worry about, like crazy weather changes, predators, unhealthy plants, but that may just be me being overly protective. Also I've only ever kept him outside during the day while someone was around to supervise. But of course I'm open to suggestions

This is what I have now, I can take more when I get home from work. "His" name is Boris, even though I pretty sure he's actually a girl. I got him when I was 7 and that was 12 years ago. I'm not sure of exact age, but he was not a baby when we got him. He is currently about 6 inches and gas been for a while. If there's anything else anyone wants to know I would be happy to tell!

Welcome to the forum! She's done a lot of growing since you've had her, my goodness.

Like Yvonne side, it would very beneficial to for Doris to have some outside time. As much as you can get, actually.

I don't worry too much about predators where I am but imagine you have raccoons? You'd need something specific to keep them out but you can get advice about there here.

Yeah we take her outside in a moveable enclosure as often as possible. I live in a very rural area so I am worried about raccoons, skunks, and coyotes. Also it get pretty cool at nights during summer, a few nights it's been about 50°F. Also because I live with my parents still i can't build any outdoor heated sheds or anything
