Hi, and welcome to the Forum.

If your tortoise is kept outside, then he will hibernate whether you want him to or not. He will dig down and stay there for as long as the weather is cold. When it starts to warm up he will wake up. No one can tell you how long that is.

But it's best to not allow them to hibernate outside because being wet while hibernating is a death sentence.

If the tortoise is kept in the house, and you keep the lights on for 14 hours a day all the time, chances are he won't hibernate.
