Hello I have a couple questions about tortoise care and the like. I am going to get a 6 month old golden Greek tortoise this is my first tortoise. Is there a certain substrate that is best? When is it changed out? Ignore I am going on a trip, can I take the tortoise table and supplies over to there house? There are no pet sitters available. Thanks for any help

Hello and Welcome. I will let someone else answer this. I don't know the care for a Greek.
Is it possible to get it after your trip? That would actually be best.

If they are short trips like a weekend I used, when I had just one tort, just give enough food, a couple water dishes to last and lights/heat on timers.

Welcome to the forum!

It sounds like you are pretty new to tortoises; you've come to the right place to learn. It's great that you've come here *before* getting the tortoise.

The best place to start is by reading the "beginners mistakes" thread:http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/beginner-mistakes.45180/

You would benefit from reading the care sheet for Greeks here: http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/greek-tortoise-testudo-graeca-care-sheet-overview.87146/

You will see two different opinions on substrate in these care sheets; once you've read them, you can get help with specific questions in the subforum that is dedicated to Greek tortoises: http://www.tortoiseforum.org/forums/greek-tortoises.83/.

It's quite a bit to read at first but your tortoise can live a hundred years, we want to help you provide it with a long and healthy life!
