Hey my names Amy and I have a beautiful two year old Hermanns Tortoise called Angela Lansbury! I called her that because when she looks around at new things she looks remarkably like Angela Lansbury in murder she wrote. I'm still eagerly waiting for her to release a bestselling murder mystery novel. She weighs 181g

Over the last week or so she's really cut down her food intake and I don't know if it's boredom. I took her to the vet to get her mouth checked and to get wormed. She also hasn't been pooing too much but then again she's not eating too much.

Her diet consists of baby lambs leaf, rocket, pansys and dried flowers.

She has a combined UV/Heat bulb which keeps her enclosure at 28-30 degrees and her little bedroom area is between 18-22 degrees but does dip down to about 10 at nighttime. ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1483700019.845528.jpg ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1483700070.372124.jpg

Hi and welcome to the forum.
There is a good caresheet for Hermanns under the species specific which will tell you all about correct temps, humidity, best substrate and help you provide a more varied diet. www.thetortoisetable.org.uk is also a good guide to tort safe plants.
The Beginners Mistakes thread (link below) is also a great source of advice and the Enclosures thread has some great ideas on how to make happy, safe and interesting homes for torts.
    Happy reading!

Hello, and a very warm welcome to Tortoise Forum to you and Angela Lansbury.:)
    Very pretty tortoise.
Temps should be a little higher, basking spot 35° to 37°.and the rest of the enclosure 26 to 30 degrees.
Night time shouldn't drop too much below 20 °.
    She is too cold.
    Vary the diet.
    I like http://www.chelonia.org/Articles/nutrientanalysis.htm
for good food ideas, the one's in bold are best.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome!!

Thanks Tidgy's Dad for the advice would you add an additional basking bulb?

Thanks ever so much for that useful link on nutritional values of foods. I'll definitely pick some bits up today.

The irony is after posting this Angela went on a food spree and ate the majority of her pansy plant along with a lot of her food.

    Great that she's eating.
The enclosure really needs to be bigger. 8' by 4' would be about a minimum.
You need night heat as well it would seem, so a CHE (ceramic heat emitter) connected to a thermostat would be a good addition. These give heat but no light as a tortoise needs total darkness to sleep properly.
A basking bulb might help , or you could part cover the enclosure to help keep in heat and humidity.

I agree she does need a bigger enclosure I'm currently about to move house once I've got more space she can as well! We are in a rather little studio flat so not sharing a room should help as well.

Is there any brands of CHE you'd recommend?

I honestly can't remember what brands mine are.
I don't think it matters, they're all pretty much of a muchness, I should think.

A very warm welcome to the forum!

Please allow me to point out that the enclosure is far too small for a tort. These animals are used to roam around in the wild as they please, without borders. Sorry - don't mean to let you down.
