Hey my name's Rani.
I've been debating on buying a tortoise, do figured I'd do my research and see what type works for me best.

I have 3 dogs, aquatic turtles and own some crested geckos.
Also, are all tortoises super friendy?
The leopards in town love to be pet, it's awesome.

Hi Rani:

Welcome to the Tortoise Forum!!

Are you saying that you know of some leopard tortoises in your town that like to be pet? Are they in a zoo?

Or did you mean actual leopard cats?

WELCOME :D the best thing you can do, is what you are doing, research. Research a bunch more, and then decide what you have the space for and best suits you and your area. Good luck. Leopards get large, 40 plus pounds. There are many that don't get that large, and some larger. They all need to be able to go outside when weather permits, so take that into account. Good luck

The tortoises are about 30 I think he said and it's a local pet store.
I'll come up and he'll extend his neck to my hand and If he's sleeping I'll pet him and he'll walk over to me. It's awesome.

Yeah, the ones in my town are large.
So, I'm going to take into account how quickly they grow, and whatnot.
At the moment one that size would not be possible.

Welcome to the Forum!

I am the proud owner of 2 Leopard hatchlings and a growing Sulcata (he's only 80 lbs right now). Wellington got it right! Research, research, research! Then when you decide what works for you... then you know where you need to do MORE research!heheheh (or you could just come on here and ask lots-o-questions!) ;)

Zamric: are yours friendly like the guy I described? I'm curious if it's a common trait. All I've found is "they are fun."

Just a tad vague lol

Hi Rani... All tortoises are fun... And welcome...
Research... Research... Research... Choose the species that will be right for you and your home environment... Then go visit someone other than a pet shop to find out the real scoop that has that tortoise... Visit them more than a couple of times... Then select only captive bred... Keep in contact here...
