Hello everyone,

I've been having a nagging idea that my tortoise's head is too small for his body, which could indicate growth that's too fast or not enough calcium. He has free access to calcium in his habitat and i regularly watch him eat it like candy, so I don't think it's that. I do fear, however, that maybe he has been growing too quickly. Over the winter my indoor planter box became infested with bugs so I had to do away with it. I grew weeds in it, so I no longer had a supply. His/her winter diet consisted of mostly Mazuri, with Romaine Lettuce and Spring Mix when I had it. It was tough to get to the store this winter as well, but now he's eating fresh weeds, mazuri only 2x a week max and spring mix to go with it.

So, has my tortoise grown too fast over winter and now his body is too small for his shell? If so, are the effects irreversible and there's something I can do to help him even out?

I have a suspicion that I could be worrying over nothing, but it seems to me that even this slight problem could be indicative of me doing something wrong and I'd like to fix that if it's the case. Thanks everyone.

Looks perfectly normal to me. But then, I don't have previous pictures to compare to. If you are seeing a bigger body just think of it as a gangly teen ager. Sometimes legs, nose, etc. grow at different rates than the rest of the body, but over time, it all catches up. You have a beautiful tortoise. Nothing to worry about.
