"Bubbles" appearing on shell

Before hibernation I noticed two "bubbles" on Speedy's shell, but I figured it wasn't anything serious. But now his whole shell appears to be filled with vague spots almost resembling bubbles in ice. I can only see them when looking from close up, and they're not visible at all on my photos.
What could be the cause of this?

Nobody's heard of this before? I won't get ahold of a camera until next week at least, so I was hoping it was a common problem that people had heard of before...

Never heard of this... are they translucent or just a lighter color than the shell?

Just lots of small spots that have a slightly lighter colour
