boxies need to hibernate/brumate to have success in breeding?

i was wondering if they need to brumate/hibernate in order to reproduce? has anyone's ever laid fertile eggs and not hibernated the winter previously? Just curious. thanks.

A fellow turtle person I know breeds his pair without hibernation. He keeps them warm indoors over winter. According to him, the male is active all year. The female does slow down a lot in winter but does not hibernate obviously.
