Hello my name is Tyler and I've owned many different reptiles and amphibians from varanus to chameleo and true frogs to axolotls but I've never owned a tortoise. On Wednesday I shall receive my first tortoise (African spur thigh) whom I've chosen to name Baldr the Unyeilding. He is fairly young and has a shell width of about 6" or so. Any tips or advice would be very much welcomed. :)

Hi and welcome! What has caused you to decide on a sulcata? Will you be able to house him outdoors or what are your plans?

Currently I plan on housing him/her (since you can't tell for certain the sex at this age) inside on a turtle table I have built. As for why I got one their size color and shape of the shell has really intrigued me as well as their life span. The one I have selected has a split scute on it's back which I think is very appealing one site I saw referred to them as being "B grade" sulcatas. I'd like a reptile that gets a fair size that my daughter can grow up with that is hopefully docile (from what I hear they are. lol).
