Just got a baby sulcata less than a week ago. His shell is 2" and he weighs 36 grams. Is that underweight?

It looks like he was just hatched less than a month ago! I think that's a normal weight for a little hatchling.

He still has a little black dried up umbilical cord looking thing. So I know he's young :( I was told he's 1 1/2 month??

Mine hatch at 36-42 grams. I had one small one one time come out at 32, and my biggest was 44.

That black dried up cord tells me that your tortoise was kept dry and the brooder box step was skipped. This is a major red flag. I would soak that baby every day for the next few months, make sure he has a proper humid hide and keep him humid.

Ditto what Tom said. And try to get the humidity in the 70-80% range. What substrate are you using?

Eco earth and orchard grass

The eco-earth is great, but the orchard grass will mold once it gets damp. In my signature there is a bunch of info on their care and housing. Check that stuff out and then come back to us with any questions.
