Myself and my partner are from the UK but are moving to NZ to start a new chapter in our life and we are reluctant to do this but we didn't want to put our little torts through the stress of flying.
So we have decided to put our lil Hermann's (PeanutButter and Jelly) up for adoption. Together...
Cheers for all the responses guys and i am going to be making a barrier for the side as I've just came to a toppled tort tonight before bed. Don't worry PeanutButter is fine we gave him a bath n popped him to bed n will keep an eye out. Also the wood i used is just ply wood got a huge 5ftx10ft...
Thanks and yerp you dont get much more humid than down in this valley in the UK. Even indoors their humidity reading are still high. I was just thinking with a vivarium style enclosure would help me get a more constant temperature. As it fluctuates quite a lot.
I was thinking something like this... or is the general consensus a vivarium is a no no... im in the UK and would probably have a vent on every side if i were to make one like this...
So i am planning on making a new indoor enclosure for PeanutButter and Jelly. I would prefer to make them a top quality living area once i get a plan sorted but below are some pics of the current setup i have. (6ftx3.5ft) and sitting on the ground.
I'm keen to make an elevated area for putting...
So summertime this year we separated our torts who just turned 1 year old last week. Jelly appeared to be bullying PeanutButter. But since separation PeanutButter keeps pushing through the smallest gap (im guessing on its side) to get into Jellys part of the enclosure. This is just strange as if...
Awesome... yer they're both gaining one more than the other I'll continue weighing n measuring each month until they get bigger before worrying about the scale
I've already looked on that article and the scale doesn't go down low enough for juveniles.
I basically just want to know if either of my torts are over or underweight
Hi, sorry if this has been answered before but i can't find a jackson scale for juvenile torts.
I have two juvenile hermanns called PeanutButter and Jelly. We used to keep these two together (controversial i know!) but we have recently separated them as we noticed Jelly getting noticeably...
Oh no that's horrendous news ! Yer that is a rather sucks way to go I've made sure I've got nothing they could flip over on anywhere near my lamps or heaters and the turn them back over slowly is a good tip too I read they could twist their stomach if done quickly
Yer cos my tortoise think they can do parkour ! Lol
Yer figured out where it was happening and hopefully if it does happen again because of the way I've set up the dirt they should be able to flip themselves easily
Yer it scared me too but my guy couldn't flip himself because it was too flat and had nothing to spin himself around on so I've gone for strategic bumps n hills for all the places they could fall while I'm not there
Yer I use I CHE that is on 24/7 and aim for 20°c at night it's just the winter here in UK n apparently my house is poorly insulated...
I've got a second basking lamp on the way and have adapted where they are going to be sleeping to hopefully retain heat better
