I recently found globe artichokes at trader joes and fed them to my Russian. He ate some but when I got home the leaves were like potato chips and to rough for him to eat. Any ideas?
Thanks
I have been growing some RT seed mix indoors recently and there seems to be a lot of gnats always around them. I often kill lots of them by hand but then more appear the next day. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My RT has been peeing a lot lately but not the white urates just clear fluid that comes in a burst. Is this a problem? He seems fine besides that with no eating problems and he's been drinking water so I don't know what to think.
Can I let my tort walk around on the strip of grass between the sidewalk and the road. Stating the obvious, I will be 3 ft away the entire time. And I won't let him eat the grass because I don't know what it is.
How should I break up the scenery in my new enclosure that's being built??? I'm thinking plants in mini pots... That way I can move them to change it up? Also I'll plant things that'll grow in UVB, any recommendations?
Thx I want to make the most of the little space I have.
Ok my dad and I are building a new enclosure for my RT, and i have some questions:
1: is this a good Che?
2: I've seen all different threads about this, but what is the best way to waterproof wood? I need a specific product that I can buy/order. Could my dad and I paint the inside?
Thx
Jakob
Is Arugula safe for Russians? I looked on russiantortoise.net and they said spring mix is ok but at whole foods spring mix has arugula. Usually I just takes it out. Btw this is NOT all I feed. I would think it's ok but what do others think?
Thanks,
Jakob
Ok I'm going away this weekend skiing. I'm going to be gone from Friday to Monday. How should I prepare for and leave my Russian. I live in Berkeley, CA, so he'll be inside...
Thanks,
Jakob
Is the best type of basking spot a slate rock or tile or something else? Going to the local vivarium store soon and was just wondering, because I know that I could also pick up just one tile from
Osh, Home Depot, lowes, etc...
Thanks,
Jakob
I am going to buy a seed mix or two for my Russian at tortoisesupply.com for my Russian. Is the testudo mix enough or should I add another to mix in. Btw I don't mean for quantity I mean for variety, like add some grasses . Also, is the ZooMed Tortoise Block a good enough supplement on its own...
I have a russian and i want to buy him a seed mix to plant in his enclosure that he can eat... I have looked at carolina pet supply ones and have also read about a Spring Mix seed mix that is really great. Any suggestions and/or links would be really helpful! Thx
Ok so my Russian has only eaten lettuce and spring mix his while life... Since I've been reading that his diet should be varied, I bought some new foods (collards, dandelions) but he won't eat them! At the first time, he runs eagerly for them and eats them all, but then the next day he isn't...
