Anyone else in the Florida panhandle?

Hello! I've been lurking for a couple weeks and have been reading like crazy. I've been planning an outdoor enclosure based on plans on here. I'd love to connect with someone else in the panhandle to pick your brain before we get a tortoise.

We are moving in a week and plan to get settled before we get a redfoot tortoise. It would be outdoor enclosure only so we would want an older juvenile/adult. All suggestions, advice, etc are welcome

I have a degree in marine science and closed systems. I used to work with sea turtle rescue/rehabilitation. I don't work in that field anymore but have always loved turtles and tortoises. I'm so excited that I will finally be in a position to have one of my own.

Hi JLM! I don't live in the pan handle... but I live in Florida! A red foot tortoise is an excellent option, all I ever hear is great things about them. Unfortunately, I can't give you much advice on an outdoor enclosure (my tort lives indoors), but I'm sure many others would be happy to give advice on this forum!
I do know, however, that you have to have a fence that goes under the ground a bit because tortoises like to dig. Also provide a shelter from the sun and water at all times. (I'm sure you know all this). And that's all I know about the outdoors.

I'm in michigan now and I keep calling it Alabama's armpit when people ask where we are headed probably need to stop that as I imagine folks won't like that ha ha

Hi, I was born and raised for 10 years in PC (aka Redneck Riviera! LOL). Good ol' Front Beach Road and the Miracle Strip! Many good memories just came rushing back! I lived just down the road from Thomas' Donuts in Laguna Beach? Do you know Thomas'?! He's still open last I heard. HAGD!
