I just adopted a 1yr old Sulcata and when I placed "him" in his new home with my 2 1/2yr old Sulcata, he started eating the Cypress Mulch that I have down as the substrate. I used to use coconut coir for years, but have recently changed to the cypress mulch. I really like the way it looks and my tortoises seem to like it better too, walking on it and such... so now what?? Any suggestions? I thought maybe he was hungry, so I put him on his plate and loaded it with lots of yummy food, which he ate then continued to step off the plate and tried eat more bark.. ugh!

Also, Just got "him" yesterday, so I'm leaning towards the name Tank, but I think that's too...average. lol Any name suggestions??20160924_095948.jpg 20160924_095941.jpg

Some do it because they're curious others do it because they're missing something in their diet. people who have this problem use a product called miner-al that usually fixes it right up. I named mine little tank.

Well I'm going to separate him for now make his own little place till I know he's been getting the right amount of what he needs in his diet and maybe that will help. Just would hate for him to get impacted on that stuff!!

Meela. Probably a good idea to keep them separated anyhow. Everything ive read n here, torts are solitary reptiles and don't need friends, and your probably introducing competition. I'm sure others will chime n on this issue too.

I wondered if anyone would notice that...I had cruise control set. LOL I had to drive 2 hrs to pick him up and I was there for less then 2 minutes and got right back on the freeway. He was sitting there like, Hi... so I picked him up and had to take a quick pic to remember the moment I got him! I know that's terrible!! I was just so excited to get him!! o_O:tort::<3::D
