Cypress Mulch question

So I️ changed my boys pens out today to cypress mulch and panzer the big boy is fine with it but the baby (2yrs old ) is trying to eat it!! I pulled out what he had in his mouth and distracted him with a treat but why is he doing this? I dont want him eating mulch!?

You don't have a red light on do you? Red makes the substrate look edible.

I used to really like cypress mulch, but the stuff you get now is too big (the chunks are too big). Now I really prefer the fine/small grade orchid bark.

Nope no red lights... and I’m not sure I’m liking the the cypress I did notice bigger chunks but Pulled anything out and threw it away that I felt wouldn’t be comfortable for them I think im going to go tomorrow and look for orchard bark I’ve heard a lot about both but him eating cypress mulch is not going to work
