hi everyone, I'm new to the group. I posted last week about our new RF we got last Sunday. I was a little concerned about some of the things he was doing and didn't know what was normal with him being our first. Today I had the vet come check him out and he has been diagnosed with a RI/pneumonia and eye infection. She's in the process of writing him an antibiotic prescription. He is still eating/drinking/going to the bathroom, so she said that's a ver good sign. Has anyone else had this diagnosis and gotten over it?

My tortoise had pneumonia last year, actually. Same deal - she ate, drank and pooped but she was wheezing, and her eyes were all bubbly from lack of humidity. We had an x ray done of her lungs to verify the pneumonia. Took about 4 rounds of Fortaz for her to get better and I had to inject her in the front legs every 3 days. Her first vet appt was January last year and her last was in May.

Before January (she was owned by someone else) she had no night/weekend heat, she was basically fed on kale and bananas twice a week, and she had no humidity. I think in taking her home, keeping her warm and adjusting to the proper husbandry was all she needed...other than the antibiotics:) I also soaked her daily in warm water.

Just keep in mind it will take a while for her to get better, and good luck!

Sorry to hear your torts going through a ruff time. @Yvonne G might be able to give you some advice. There are some meds that tortoises owners need to be careful of, she might be able to fill you in. Good luck and there has been lots of torts recover from RI. I would keep your tort a little warmer then normal until her recovers.
