Wow, that's weird!!! I want him.
(I'm guessing he won't straighten out, but I know virtually nothing about things like this. I just wanted to comment because he's cute.) 
It's straightening out.
I guess that answers my question on if the eggshell is used as a bridge to form the Carapace shape @Will. No it doesn't.

Hatch just one pancake and you will see some extreme shape change.
Yesterday I opened the incubator to check on this guy and one of the eggs exploded, nearly had a heart attack. Loud bang followed by egg shrapnel in face and a stench I can't even begin to explain.
I didn't realize that they went with such a bang.
I had to wash all the other eggs.

I have about 30 YF eggs in an incubator that I've been faithfully incubating, some for over a year and a half. They're all way past hatching. I want to open them to see if any were fertile, but I'm afraid of the explosion.

I just picture you opening the door, an explosion, and then standing there with egg all over your face. Poor you.
