How about legit (hope I spelled it right). She isn't afraid to take on anybody, but is pretty fair usually.

Prairie Mom is another easy going member.

These all seem like good nominations! What a tough choice for Josh! I haven't been around all that long, but it seems like the moderators have a fairly tough job. It is always hard to have to "be the bad guy" now and then. Best of luck to everyone nominated!

If the person concerned is of HARSH nature, it would be so, so easy to be 'the bad guy.';)

This is very true. I feel "harshness" often arises out of passion....a quality that sometimes gleams just below the surface of some posts.
Whatever the reason, there is no need whatsoever for it.:(

I think you would be good and please rethink (and read the reasons above about Steven)
Thank you very much Jacqui, but I don't think I could do such a good job as the rest of you mods.
I love learning from, contributing to and promoting the forum by letting as many people as possible know about it,
but I would not be the best choice at the moment.

Thank you very much for the nomination Yvonne, John, Ed and Gillian, I feel honoured that you think so highly of me, but I have only had a tort for just over a year and most of my advice is based on repeating parrot fashion what I have learnt and still am learning from many more experienced folk here.
Also with full time teaching I'm not able to spend as much time as I would like on the forum and sometimes have to ban myself to make time for my work! So sadly I will not be able to accept the nomination.

There are many worthy people here that would be great for the job, but I think that as there are many UK and European members, it would be very useful to have a moderator in a different time zone to the US, which is why I think Adam (@Tidgy's Dad) would be a good choice. He is very diplomatic but straight and has time.
Good luck to all nominees!

We aren't moderators because of the advice we give. We are here to take care of the running of the Forum in Josh's absence. We keep the peace, put threads in the proper space, make members feel welcome and encourage goodwill. You don't have to even have a tortoise to be a moderator.

I love Tom, however, there are quite a few people who harbor resentments towards him, and he really doesn't know how to be diplomatic in certain instances. (Sorry Tom)

No apologies necessary. I have demonstrated nothing less to you here, but you are not correct. You said "...and he really doesn't know how to be diplomatic in certain instances." This is false. I know perfectly well how to be diplomatic in any situation. My daily life requires this, and my success in my chosen profession offers proof of my diplomatic abilities.

I prefer to remain a "regular" member here so that I do not have to be diplomatic in situations where I do not want to be diplomatic. If I were to accept an offer to be a moderator, it would require me to hold myself and my comments to a much higher standard. I prefer to be able to speak my mind at will, within forum rules and guidelines, of course.

I also would not be able to devote the time necessary for moderator duties due to my sporadic and unpredictable work requirements.

All the same, I thank anyone and everyone who would consider me worthy of this honor.

I'm reluctant to offer a name because I really don't want to hurt the feelings of people who I might not think would be good moderators.

I will say one thing though… Because someone is brash, edgy or less-than-tolerant as a regular member, does not mean they are incapable of behaving in a more dignified fashion when in a position that requires it.

My love for Yvonne and her eloquence, diplomacy and grace is no secret. Her choice of words is most dignified in every way. But over the years there have been a few times where I have been privy to what she'd like to say… Because she is in the position she is in, and also because she is a lovely and good person, she choses not to stoop to the lowest common denominator. I think several others do make, and/or would make a similar choice as well. At this time I am not one of those people.

I guess that was more than "one thing".

I love Will, but I love him because he tells it like it is, at least in his view. He has no problem correcting me, or anyone else, when we are wrong. He has succinctly put me in my place more than once and I appreciate and respect him for it. I love his candor, his humor, and I would not want him to be restrained in any way. If he were a moderator, he would have to "behave" more, and I fear that a well-behaved version of Will and his commentary would not be nearly as much fun.

I'm sorry Pete, but I wish to un-nominate your nominee.

Fair enough. It would be disappointing to dilute Will's humor in any way. I quite enjoy reading his posts, as they are among the more intelligent, well-thought out posts among the forum. Being a moderator I suppose could interfere with that.

Not to criticize our current moderators at all, but I would quite like to see any new ones to be a little more fair in their moderation. Its a great disappointment to see valuable information continually removed because it might hurt somebody's feelings. Perhaps I am different then most in that matter.

for those of you saying you don't have a lot of time to be one. you don't need a lot time really the moderators like myself for example spend a lot of time on here because I has no life. call so you don't need a lot of experience because the moderators job is not tortoise advice giving you know. since I've destroyed those two excuses let's see you come up with some new ones okay :)
