Stumbled across this vid on youtube ant thought I'd share. It's less than 3 min, but it's about teaching a 57 y/o Redfoot commands.

Beautiful tortoise. I didn't think they could hear that well...

They don't hear higher frequencies well. From what I saw in the video, the tortoise only needs to use it's eyes for receiving a treat. I think the trainer saying "target" is more for her/video-takers sake than the tortoise. Their visual acuity and sense of smell are impressive but their hearing is relatively poor relative to the other two senses.
