This is a bit early, but when is the proper time to hibernate juvenile EBTs? Mine are just about a year old, and are all about 1 1/2 to 2 inches long. Should I hibernate, or should I allow them to stay up another winter?

And because any good questions deserve a photo, he's one of Barnum, the "big boy" of the group.

I don't think I will hibernate my yearlings this year. Some are quite big now, the largest is 170g and about 3.5" but they aren't that much work to keep. If I feed them through one more winter, they'll be that much bigger for next year. I can see why they grow so slowly in the wild if they are only eating 1/2 the year.

I have been giving Franklin a cold period since he was about a year old he is about 4 years now. It is shorter and not as cold as he would naturally have. He still lives inside (I don't trust the adults and subadults with his safety though I don't think they would eat him they probably would steel his food).
