URGENT!! New substrate

Just changed my substrate to Eco earth, my tort is eating it! Is this safe? I can tell he's stressed about the new substrate change because he's pacing. He's also very messy. Is that normal with this stuff!? The substrate is working great though, it's holding in humidity so much better I just need to know if this ok.
Pls answer quickly! I need to know if this safe for him. Thanks so much.

Just make sure he's well-hydrated. Coir isn't toxic, but if he isn't well-hydrated it might back up in his system.

What folks usually do is add the coir, then pat it down to pack it with the palm of your hand. Its less messy that way.
