Turtle Basking?

My baby RES basks and stick out one of his back legs. I've seen turtles do this before? Why? It's so silly looking.

Mine will usually do it with both back legs at the same time. My guess is to not only stretch it, but to get it exposed to more heat from the sun.

They do that in order to expose as much skin as possible to the sun. Both for the UV value and for the heat value.
